Ricky Boyd

Ricky is the Director and the busiest teacher. Currently teaching drums, guitar and keyboards, Ricky during the day is likely to be teaching music at either Lytton high, St Mary's, Rere, Ngatapa, Waerenga O' Kuri or Makauri schools. Ricky also teaches the Gisborne Home School students and students from Matapuna Training Centre at the Band School. Ricky started The Band School in Wellington before relocating to Gisborne late 2012 (initially to his reluctance) so his kids could grow up in amazing Tairawhiti.

Playing with Grammy Award winner, Rock n Roll Hall of Fame inductee, the first lady of Rockabilly, Wanda Jackson
Recording over 20 albums, soundtracks for the BBC, Nationally promoted adverts, recorded for the New Zealand Royal Ballet Tutu's on Tour with the Beatles and recorded on the Motion Picture soundtrack for Separation City.
Ricky's Band The Boomshack Band has played over 100 shows, including Cooly's Rocks On Festival in Tweed Heads, Australia, and both Peter Jacksons 'The Hobbit' and James Cameron’s The Avatar 2 wrap parties. It's the 'go to' band for authentic Rock n Roll in NZ
Ricky has taught drums to an All Black (Alama Ieremia) and several TV stars including Jason Fa'afoi and Shavaughn Ruakere.
Has Played with Ladyhawke, Warren Maxwell, Sam Scott (Phoenix Foundation), Liam Finn, The Accelerants, James Milne (Lawrence Arabia), Eva Prowse, Barnaby Weir (Black Seeds), Paul Crowther (Split Enz), Jason Kerrison (Opshop), David Long (The Muttonbirds and The Hobbit soundtrack), Jason Fa-afoi (What Now? and Good Laika), Robin Hinkley, Connan Mockasin, Age Pryor (Fly My Pretties), Lisa Tomlins (Neil Finn), NZ Blues legend Darren Watson, Ben Fulton, guitar pedal making legend (Red Witch Pedals) and regularly plays in several bands with his best mates Matthew Armitage, who resides in Byron Bay, and Tyson Smith (Wgtn).
Annabelle Sales
Vocal Tutor, Bachelor of Music - Victoria Univeristy, Grad-Dip of Teaching
Originally from Gisborne, is a registered music teacher and professional singer. Annabelle studied a BMus in classical performance at NZSM in Wellington, followed by a Graduate diploma in Secondary Education. Apart from teaching for over 10 years, including 5 years as HOD, Annabelle has worked as a cruise ship musician travelling through over 60 countries and is a regular performer in Hawke’s Bay with her band “The Stereos” and with her husband Ash in their duo project “Annabelle & Ash”.
Annabelle was director of Napier Music Academy until over a year ago and has moved back to Gisborne to be close to her family and also to raise her own family in the country.
Simon Mallett
Bachelor of Music, Post-Grad Composition - Auckland University.
Band co-ordinator and tutor / Guitar / Composition and theory / Holiday Programmes
Simon is new to The Band School in 2017 and is a great asset for the school. Simon is co-ordinator of the Bands as well as a tutor with bands, guitar / composition / vocals. Simon loves the 'why' behind song-writing and composition, so you're likely to not only play chords and melodies, but understand how they're formed under him. Strengths include Contemporary music, Recording and Song Writing.
Jarrod Seaton
Bass / interesting stringed instruments. Bachelor in Teaching, Auckland University.
Jarrod is the HOD of Music at Campion College and hires Ricky and Annabelle to teach there. In return he can be found on thursdays teaching bass with us, a great musical family. Jarrod loves gear, from making guitars and basses, to upright basses and guitar pedals he loves and collects it all.
