Ricky Boyd

Ricky is the Director and the busiest teacher. Currently teaching drums, guitar and keyboards, Ricky during the day is likely to be teaching music at either Lytton high, St Mary's, Rere, Ngatapa, Waerenga O' Kuri or Makauri schools. Ricky also teaches the Gisborne Home School students and students from Matapuna Training Centre at the Band School. Ricky started The Band School in Wellington before relocating to Gisborne late 2012 (initially to his reluctance) so his kids could grow up in amazing Tairawhiti.

Simon Mallett

(Bachelor of Music, Post-Grad Composition, Auckland University)
Band co-ordinator and tutor / Guitar / Composition and theory / Holiday Programmes

Simon is new to The Band School in 2017 and is a great asset for the school. Simon is co-ordinator of the Bands as well as a tutor with bands, guitar / composition / vocals. Simon loves the 'why' behind song-writing and composition, so you're likely to not only play chords and melodies, but understand how they're formed under him. Strengths include Contemporary music, Recording and Song Writing.

BRUCE REID

Locally born and raised, but spent most of the last 10 years abroad, including playing and selling double basses in Australia and Japan. Now back for good, Bruce is taking on Bass guitar and guitar. Like Ricky, Bruce went to the New Zealand Jazz school to study.

Welcome onboard Bruce!
